  1. Sloop Manager, version 1.2                         by Sloop Software

  4. Sloop Manager is the complete graphical replacement for MS Windows 3.0
  5. Program Manager.  It has virtually all the features of Program Manager plus
  6. a host of new ones.
  7.  
  8. Features include:
  9.   - the ability to create folders (groups) within folders
  10.   - move or copy items from folder to folder using drag/drop
  11.   - run command with browse button which also stores last twelve commands
  12.   - associate command that allows multiple programs to be associated
  13.     with a single extension
  14.   - save location and size of folder as well as item positions
  15.   - use virtually any icon on the system to represent items
  16.   - display items as icons or just names
  17.   - password protection
  18.   - multi-select capability in adding, deleting, moving or
  19.     copying folder items
  20.   - startup folder may be used to remove need to edit WIN.INI
  21.   - simple, easy to use icon browser dialog
  22.   - command bar for quick access to often used commands
  23.   - customizable popup run menu

  25. Installation:
  26.   To install Sloop Manager or to install a new version of Sloop Manager, 
  27.   follow the steps below.  Note that you may import any folders created 
  28.   with our Folders program, provided it is version 3.1 or later.

  30.   Important: If installing over an old version of Sloop Manager, it is 
  31.   suggested you backup your sloopman data directory, just in case there 
  32.   is a problem during the install process.
  33.  
  34.   1. Insert the Sloop Manager, disk 1 into the appropriate drive.
  35.  
  36.   2. From Program Manager, or Sloop Manager (if running), select the Run 
  37.      command and type in a:install.exe.  If using the b drive, substitute
  38.      a: with b:.  
  39.  
  40.      If you are currently running Sloop Manager as the shell, you will be
  41.      able to restart Windows with Program Manager as the shell at this 
  42.      point.  After restarting, run the install program again.  Re-installing
  43.      is not possible while Sloop Manager is running as the shell.

  45.   3. Follow the directions for installing or re-installing the software.
  46.      The install program will copy all needed files to your system and, if 
  47.      re-installing, update the Sloop Manager system to run with the new
  48.      version.
  49.  
  50.   Should this process fail for any reason, follow the instructions for the 
  51.   manual install process in the file trouble.txt.
  52.  
  53.   Note that the program will not run under Real mode of Windows.
  54.  
  55.   If you converted an existing Folders system to Sloop Manager, you may 
  56.   delete your folders data directory and the files FOLDERS.EXE,
  57.   FOLDERS.HLP and FOLDERS.INI, if you so desire.  This will remove Folders
  58.   from your system as it is not needed if you have Sloop Manager.

  61. Uninstalling Sloop Manager:
  62.   1. Edit the SYSTEM.INI file, found in the Windows directory, using an
  63.      editor like Notepad.
  64.   2. Find the line which reads: shell=sloopman.exe
  65.      Change the line to read: shell=progman.exe
  66.   3. Save and close the SYSTEM.INI file.
  67.   4. Restart Windows.  Program Manager should now start as the shell.

  90. Note that this is a shareware program.  As such, you may use it on a trial
  91. basis for thirty days.  After this time, the program should be registered 
  92. if it is continued to be used.  The cost is $35 for the latest version and
  93. a printed manual.  For $30 you receive the latest version, but no manual.
